Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the disaster data come from?

We aggregate data from official sources: USGS for earthquakes, Smithsonian GVP for volcanoes, NOAA/NHC for hurricanes and tsunamis, NASA FIRMS for wildfires, and other authoritative agencies.

How often is the data updated?

Most disaster data updates every few minutes. Earthquakes appear within minutes of detection. Storm and wildfire tracking updates hourly or more frequently during active events.

Can I receive disaster alerts?

The tracker shows real-time data on the interactive map. For official alerts and warnings, we recommend following your local emergency management agency.

How accurate is the disaster tracking?

We use data directly from official scientific agencies (USGS, NOAA, NASA). Accuracy depends on the source agency's monitoring networks and may vary by region.
