Use the BOS observer when comparing a Boston sighting

This forecast uses the BOS-linked coordinates in PocketWorld's Boston city entry. It is one fixed reference observer, not a location measured from your phone and not a forecast for every neighbourhood. A calculation entered for Cambridge or another observing point can differ. Compare the printed latitude and longitude before deciding that two Boston schedules disagree. The airport code identifies the reference; it is not a recommendation to observe from airport property.

An East Coast ground track is not a Boston sighting schedule. The New York guide uses a different observer, even when the same orbit appears nearby on the globe. Compare each city's starting direction and maximum elevation independently. Opening or moving the globe does not move the BOS observer used by this table.

Keep a Boston local reminder separate from the UTC row

PocketWorld labels the forecast in UTC. NASA's Spot the Station app instead uses the local time zone of its selected observing location and adjusts for daylight saving time. A difference between those clocks is not automatically a prediction error. Match the observer and time standard first, then compare the complete calendar date, start and predicted end.

A row shortly after midnight UTC can belong to the preceding local date in Boston. Preserve the original UTC date in a note before creating a local reminder; do not apply one fixed hour offset throughout the year. Save the source retrieval time as well as the pass time. A screenshot of the countdown alone cannot establish which date or observer was used.

Check Boston sky conditions for the forecast's valid time

The Boston / Norton National Weather Service resource below is a regional starting point. Select your intended location and the relevant hour rather than treating the office name or its regional map as a cloud forecast for the BOS observer. Weather information and an orbital prediction answer separate questions. Neither a clear-looking weather symbol nor a nearby station marker proves that you will see a pass.

For a useful comparison record, retain the observer code, UTC date, initial direction, maximum elevation and separately reported visible duration. If the table is partial or unavailable, keep that notice with the record. Do not fill a missing Boston opportunity with a New York time or extend the visible segment to cover the full start-to-end window. The independent NASA resource remains available when this page cannot obtain a reliable list.

Observer settings and forecast scope

Reference: BOS, Boston, USA. Latitude 42.3656°, longitude -71.0096°. Observer altitude input: 0 metres. This fixed input is not a measurement of the city's elevation or your location. The request asks N2YO for up to 10 days of visual passes with a minimum visible duration of 60 seconds. Results can be cached for up to one hour; the retrieval timestamp is shown with the table.

All table dates and times are UTC, not automatically converted to your local time zone. Keep the date when converting. The countdown depends on your device clock. A predicted start and end describe a pass window; the separately reported visible duration can be shorter. Maximum elevation is an angle above the horizon. An unknown magnitude is not a prediction of a faint pass.

When the table cannot answer your question

Read the status message before relying on the countdown. A partial list contains only the source entries that passed validation. An unavailable result provides no reliable schedule at all. The page makes one bounded request rather than repeatedly contacting the provider in the background. If loading fails, reloading makes another attempt; the source links below remain usable independently of that request. Closing or leaving the page stops its countdown timer.

Seeing the ISS from Boston

A forecast is not proof of visibility from your position. Sunlight on the station, a sufficiently dark sky, cloud and your local horizon all matter. The globe's position marker is not a confirmed sighting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these exact times for my home in Boston?

No. The forecast uses the fixed reference coordinates and zero-metre observer-altitude input printed above, not your device location.

Which time zone does the forecast use?

Dates and times are labelled in UTC. Convert both the date and time when making a local reminder.

Does an unavailable forecast mean no ISS passes?

No. An error means no reliable list was obtained. An empty successful response means no qualifying entries were returned for the stated observer and request window.
