One globe, several update schedules
Each PocketWorld layer has its own cadence and coverage: aircraft and weather can change within minutes, while satellite catalogs, imagery and reference geography update less often. The interface preserves timestamps and source labels so users can distinguish a live observation from a directory entry or background dataset.
How layers are normalized
Source formats disagree about names, coordinates, units and freshness. PocketWorld converts coordinates and units into a common display model, removes obvious duplicate events and keeps the original provider attached to each record. It does not turn an unknown field into a zero and does not treat a directory entry as a live observation. That distinction matters when comparing an aircraft position, a satellite orbit, a disaster bulletin and a radio station on the same screen.
The globe is an exploration product, not an operational control system. Safety-critical decisions must be checked against the responsible aviation, maritime, meteorological, seismic or emergency authority.
Live data sources
PocketWorld combines public and community data from OpenSky Network, community ADS-B and AIS providers, CelesTrak, NASA, NOAA, USGS, EMSC, GDACS, Open-Meteo, iptv-org and Radio Browser. Each mode identifies its active providers and freshness.
