Major ports and available AIS context

This directory links one canonical profile for each reviewed port. The listed UN/LOCODE-style identifiers, port types and rounded annual container figures are reference values; reporting years and the geographic scope of published throughput totals can differ between port authorities.

Port profiles can include the latest available public AIS positions observed near the port. AIS is not a complete port-call or berth-management system. Receiver density, satellite relays, vessel transmission intervals and privacy or safety restrictions affect which ships appear and how current each position is.

Destination text is entered aboard the vessel and can be abbreviated or stale, while proximity to a port does not prove an arrival clearance or berth assignment. Use PocketWorld for geographic exploration and verify operational decisions with the port, terminal, carrier or responsible maritime authority.

Maritime data sources

Vessel positions use available AIS feeds and public maritime datasets. Coastal coverage and update intervals vary by receiver network.

Frequently asked questions

Are the throughput figures live?

No. They are rounded annual reference values and can come from different reporting periods.

Does PocketWorld show every vessel in a port?

No. Public AIS coverage and report intervals vary, and some vessels or fields may be unavailable.

Does a nearby AIS position confirm a port call?

No. A nearby position or destination label does not confirm clearance, berth assignment or an official arrival.
