Compare a Vancouver sighting without mixing observer positions

This page uses the YVR reference coordinates shown below. That is a fixed point from PocketWorld's airport-linked city directory, not a measurement of your device location or an observing position selected on the globe. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing this table with a schedule calculated for your home. Opening the map does not change the reference used by this page.

Start with the date and the UTC label, then compare the starting direction and maximum elevation. A matching city name alone is not enough to establish that two schedules describe the same opportunity. Use the same observer coordinates, prediction date and minimum visible duration before treating a difference as an error. A row missing from another list may have been excluded by that list's filters.

Make a Vancouver observing note you can check later

Write down the forecast retrieval time, UTC start, predicted end and initial direction together. Do not save only a countdown screenshot: it becomes outdated as time passes and does not preserve the observer settings. If you share this page, tell the recipient that the table is a forecast for YVR coordinates and that their own horizon may differ.

The initial direction is a place to begin interpreting the prediction, not a complete drawn path across your actual skyline. Compare the elevation with obstructions at the place where you intend to look. The table does not survey buildings, terrain or trees and does not certify a viewing site as accessible.

Use the Canadian weather link for a separate cloud check and the CSA guide for observation basics. Neither is replaced by a favourable-looking row here. If the forecast service is unavailable, follow the official observation resources below; an unavailable table says nothing about whether a Vancouver sighting will occur.

Observer settings and forecast scope

Reference: YVR, Vancouver, Canada. Latitude 49.1967°, longitude -123.1815°. Observer altitude input: 0 metres. This fixed input is not a measurement of the city's elevation or your location. The request asks N2YO for up to 10 days of visual passes with a minimum visible duration of 60 seconds. Results can be cached for up to one hour; the retrieval timestamp is shown with the table.

All table dates and times are UTC, not automatically converted to your local time zone. Keep the date when converting. The countdown depends on your device clock. A predicted start and end describe a pass window; the separately reported visible duration can be shorter. Maximum elevation is an angle above the horizon. An unknown magnitude is not a prediction of a faint pass.

When the table cannot answer your question

Read the status message before relying on the countdown. A partial list contains only the source entries that passed validation. An unavailable result provides no reliable schedule at all. The page makes one bounded request rather than repeatedly contacting the provider in the background. If loading fails, reloading makes another attempt; the source links below remain usable independently of that request. Closing or leaving the page stops its countdown timer.

Seeing the ISS from Vancouver

A forecast is not proof of visibility from your position. Sunlight on the station, a sufficiently dark sky, cloud and your local horizon all matter. The globe's position marker is not a confirmed sighting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these exact times for my home in Vancouver?

No. The forecast uses the fixed reference coordinates and zero-metre observer-altitude input printed above, not your device location.

Which time zone does the forecast use?

Dates and times are labelled in UTC. Convert both the date and time when making a local reminder.

Does an unavailable forecast mean no ISS passes?

No. An error means no reliable list was obtained. An empty successful response means no qualifying entries were returned for the stated observer and request window.
