First check whether you resumed a paused program
A player can resume where you stopped rather than jump to the newest available audio. Radio-Canada documents this behaviour for ICI Première in OHdio, including its control for returning to live playback. That example does not mean every player offers the same feature. Look at the controls actually present, and distinguish “playing” from “at the live edge.”
Make sure you are comparing the same program
Write down the service, region and edition on both devices. Two feeds with the same network branding may not be the same program stream. If one device is playing an episode page while another is on a live channel, their clocks are not measuring a transport delay. Check the official regional schedule when that is the service you are using, or the equivalent source for another broadcaster.
A comparison log that avoids false precision
- Record the two player pages and their selected services.
- Note whether either was paused, restarted or left in a background tab.
- Choose one recognizable spoken phrase to compare.
- Describe the observed offset as a device-to-device difference, not an official transmission latency.
A single comparison cannot isolate all the stages between studio and listener. It also cannot prove that one website is always faster. Avoid publishing an exact universal delay based on a brief test, and do not refresh repeatedly to chase perfect synchronization. If playback continually stops rather than simply runs behind, investigate it as a stability problem instead.
Where the distinction matters
Listening together, following an interview and checking a breaking report have different timing needs. For a time-sensitive decision, use the responsible official source; a public stream is not a synchronized alert channel. PocketWorld does not promise a fixed latency or supply a rewind archive for every endpoint. When exploring radio here, verify the station identity and available playback state. If you need to revisit a segment, find the broadcaster's published episode rather than assuming a live URL will still contain it later.
