Media listening guides

Separate a silent player from an unavailable live stream

Keep the exact symptom instead of calling every failure a broken channel.

Choose TV or radio

Start with one deliberate play attempt

A page opening does not necessarily start sound. WebKit's media-policy explanation describes the role of user gestures and muted playback; Firefox documents its autoplay controls. Select the intended station and use its play control. Then check the player's mute state and your selected audio output. Avoid changing several browser settings at once: you would lose the evidence about which change mattered.

Classify what you see

  • Picture without sound: check mute, volume and output before assuming a network failure.
  • Playback never starts: keep any displayed error and test the original broadcaster's supported player.
  • Playback starts then stops: note whether it coincides with leaving the page or changing connections.
  • A location or access message: follow the provider's eligibility guidance; repeated refreshes cannot grant viewing rights.

The Mozilla audio and video troubleshooting page provides browser-specific checks. Use instructions for your actual device instead of copying desktop-only settings into a phone workflow. Do not install an unknown codec, certificate or profile from a pop-up claiming it is required to watch a public channel.

Compare one alternative carefully

Try the station's official page with the same device and connection. If it works there but not in the directory, record that difference. If both fail, it is evidence of a wider access or provider problem, not proof of its exact cause. Do not disable your VPN, security protections or privacy settings merely to follow this checklist. Any optional connection change should be your own informed choice, with its effect recorded separately.

Send a useful, non-sensitive report

Include the station title, public page, device and browser, approximate time and exact symptom. Omit account details, private addresses and copied credentials. PocketWorld cannot repair a broadcaster's removed stream or promise every codec on every phone. A reproducible report can help distinguish an incorrect record from a player defect. Stop repeated retries when the same error persists; choose another authorized source or return later instead of consuming data on an endless reload loop.

Publisher and technical references are linked beside the explanations. PocketWorld is an independent directory; these guides do not imply broadcaster affiliation or guarantee playback availability.
